An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic clinician to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Department as a Clinical Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This post provides an excellent opportunity to develop broad clinical experience within a busy secondary and tertiary OMFS service whilst working alongside a supportive consultant-led multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services across Bristol Dental Hospital, Bristol Royal Infirmary and South Bristol Community Hospital. Clinical exposure includes outpatient clinics, elective day-case surgery, inpatient care, emergency OMFS referrals, facial trauma, dentoalveolar surgery, skin cancer pathways and head and neck oncology services.

This role offers valuable experience in the assessment and management of patients requiring treatment under local and general anaesthesia, together with participation in the resident OMFS on-call rota. The post holder will work closely with consultants, specialty doctors, trainees and nursing colleagues to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Up-to-date knowledge and skills relevant to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Ability to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care.
  • Understanding of professional standards and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates sound clinical judgement appropriate to experience.
  • Ability to contribute to inpatient, outpatient and emergency OMFS services.
  • Broad IT skills including use of electronic patient records.
  • Capacity to adapt communication and behaviour to different clinical situations.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of current NHS priorities relevant to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Experience of managing patients undergoing treatment under general and local anaesthesia.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery, or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) or General Medical Council (GMC) at the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies or equivalent experience in line with GDC/GMC standards.
  • Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience.

Desirable

  • Additional qualifications relevant to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Evidence of commitment to a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
