The Great Western Hospital opened in 2002 following a move from the Princess Margaret Hospital elsewhere in Swindon. Main duties of the job

These posts are rotational through 3 rotations - August, December, April. Rotations for each post can consist of any of the Medical Specialties, however all posts will include a rotation through Acute Medicine, which includes an out of hours rota and salary enhancement.

There is also the option to pick up 1 in 5 General Medicine on-call weekends, with other on-calls subject to availability. The role will also include float weeks in the rota, to cover Medical Outliers, escalation areas or cross-cover to other wards if needed.

Duties will include assessing patients, carrying out management plans and writing clear, concise and accurate electronic discharge summaries.  Cooperation with nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team (pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists, dieticians) is vital.

While this is not formally recognized as a training post, we would expect post holders to gain similar experience to those on recognised training posts and use this as a springboard to achieve a competitive post in the future.  You will be encouraged to discuss your career aspirations with your supervising consultant at the commencement of your post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We have a weekly timetable of high-quality teaching sessions on a broad variety of subjects to support your foundation training. We also provide simulation training, clinical skills days and support to undertake quality improvement projects and audit work.

There is an active Post Graduate Medical Education programme based in the Academy Postgraduate Centre. A full range of library services is available at the hospital and through that library from the Regional Library Service.
