Working as part of a specialist Clinical Engineering team, you will undertake maintenance, repair, calibration, testing, and commissioning of medical devices, while providing expert technical support to clinical staff. Main duties of the job

  • Carry out maintenance, repair, calibration and safety testing of a wide range of medical equipment.
  • Commission, install and acceptance-test new medical devices.
  • Diagnose faults and provide technical support to clinical departments across the Trust.
  • Ensure medical equipment complies with safety standards, regulations and quality requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate preventative maintenance programmes to maximise equipment availability.
  • Maintain accurate service, maintenance and calibration records.
  • Liaise with manufacturers and external service providers regarding repairs and specialist support.
  • Deliver training and advice to healthcare staff on the safe use of medical equipment.
  • Support equipment safety investigations, risk assessments and service improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day running of the Clinical Engineering Department and support junior team members where required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Clinical Engineering Technician, you will play a key role in supporting patient care by ensuring medical equipment across the Trust is safe, reliable, and fully operational. You will undertake the maintenance, repair, calibration, testing, and commissioning of a wide range of medical devices, provide specialist technical support to clinical teams, and contribute to equipment safety, quality assurance, risk management, and staff training. The role also involves liaising with external suppliers and manufacturers, maintaining accurate service records, supporting service improvement initiatives, and helping to deliver a high-quality Clinical Engineering service across Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Education & Qualification

Essential

  • Degree, HND, HNC, BTEC, OND, ONC in an appropriate engineering discipline, i.e. Electronics, Mechanics etc

Desirable

  • Registered Clinical Technologist
