Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust Clinical Engineering is expanding its services to deliver the medical technology needed to care for the people of Buckinghamshire.

We are responsible for the lifetime management of a large and complex fleet of medical equipment providing Sufficient, Safe and Effective high-quality medical equipment and a range of technical services to clinical teams. A forward thinking service aiming to be trusted partner, driving the adoption of new technology such as integrated infusion systems with Drug Error Reduction Systems (DERS), Critical Care information systems with fully integrated medical equipment data, real time location systems to improve equipment management (RTLS) and systems to support the care of our patients in the community.

We are inviting applications for a Specialist Technologist to join our Technical team, based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, supervising the work of a team supporting a fleet of specialist & standard medical equipment such as anaesthetic machines, ventilators, ultrasound machines, etc.

You will be suitably qualified in science or engineering on the Register of Clinical Technologists, or incorporated or chartered with the engineering council, with substantial experience and technical expertise in medical equipment maintenance.  You'll combine high technical standards with the ability to lead systematic performance improvement, identifying efficiencies, setting expectations clearly, and supporting the team to deliver them.

Main duties of the job

The post holder supervises the Clinical Engineering Technical Service team at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital site (and other northern Trust sites) to ensure effective and continuous lifecycle management supporting the Trust’s medical equipment fleet.  Working on a range specialist medical equipment such as anaesthetic machines, ventilators and ultrasound machines.  Responsible for the supervision, workload and technical development of the team members, monitoring and overseeing the quality and safety of the service, managing the stock of spare parts and specialist tools and equipment used to deliver the service.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Very significant experience of supervising a medical equipment maintenance, service and repair function
  • In-depth knowledge of current medical equipment safety standards
  • Expertise in the application of advanced test equipment to calibrate or confirm the performance of highly specialist medical equipment such as ultrasound, anaesthetic, and intensive care life-support equipment
  • Experience of supervising individuals and teams in a technical environment

Desirable

  • Significant expertise in the management and operation of a medical equipment asset database

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable Engineering or Scientific discipline
  • Specialist training for the maintenance of a range of medical equipment equivalent to Masters level

Desirable

  • Entry on the Register of Clinical Technologists or Entry on the Register of Clinical Technologists OR CEng specialising in medical technology
