Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Clinical Coder looking to advance their career within the profession.  To directly line manage a coding team of staff with a variety of different posts over three sites to support delivery of the coding service. You will be fundamental to delivering a world class clinical coding function to the Trust and other key stakeholders, playing a key role in developing, maintaining and evolving the Trust’s clinical coding systems, processes and service delivery to support the provision of in-depth and quality coding.

Through team work, you will ensure that every aspect of our service meets the rapidly changing needs of our organisation providing quality service to consultants, clinicians and non-clinical colleagues. You will be required to work with operational and corporate teams and clinical portfolios in the development and delivery of complex coding requirements. This will require analysis, interpretation and resolution of highly complex problems, covering a wide range of clinical and business areas including at a national level.

You should be able to demonstrate a high level of communication skills, excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines. Remote working is available to the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the Site Lead role are:

  • accurately abstract, analyse, and assign complex diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications
  • work closely with clinical teams to validate and enhance the quality of coded data
  • organise own & team work loads and work within deadlines.
  • act as a mentor to junior coders and support their development
  • contribute to clinical engagement, KPI monitoring, audit preparation and data quality improvement.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC)
  • Completed Refresher course in the last 3 years

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience of coding multiple specialties within an NHS environment.
  • Experienced in the use of ICD 10 and OPCS-4 classification
  • Experience in working in a Clinical Coding department in an Acute trust

Skills Essential Ability to analyse and abstract complex records Ability to resolve complex coding issues and aptly articulate resolutions to other. Able to identify data quality issues and coding workflow impediments and use sound intuition to resolve.
