Position:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Coding Clerk within our Medical Records Department based at Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine.
Hours and Shift Pattern:
28.8 hours per week, working Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 8.00 am to 3.36 pm and Thursday, 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.
This post is offered on a permanent basis.
What you will do:
You will extract clinical data from patients’ case records and clinical summaries, encode, compile and validate Scottish Morbidity Records for submission to Information and Statistics Division as well as compiling daily bed utilisation statistics for health care planning.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
You will possess a European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) as well as a Certificate of Technical Competence from the Institute of Health Record and Information Management (IHRIM) or have equivalent relevant qualifications and/or proven experience. Excellent numeracy skills to compile bed statistics and a knowledge of Microsoft Excel are also essential.
Previous knowledge/experience of Health Records Department procedures and their contribution to the delivery of health care as well as a knowledge of the Patient Administration System functions, particularly the admission process and functions is advantageous.
You will also have excellent communication skills both written and verbal and have the ability to work effectively and efficiently whilst integrating as part of a team. You must also have the ability to adhere to strict maintenance of confidentiality with a knowledge/understanding and compliance of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The ability to work unsupervised whilst using your own initiative is essential as well as being able to work to challenging timescales by organising and prioritising your workload and having the flexibility to adapt to change and last minute demands.
