Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Charge Nurse based at University Hospital Crosshouse.

What you will do:

The ward requires a DCN to support the SCN to ensure the safe running of a 30 bedded acute medical ward comprising of 8 endocrinology beds and 22 frailty beds. They will help ensure all referrals associated with discharge planning are completed and the whiteboard and PMS are kept up to date. The will be involved in facilitating weekly SAFER meetings with the MDT to discuss and plan a patient’s journeys from their admission to the ward to their safe discharge destination. They will assist with datix investigations and any action plans that are required following these investigations, complete weekly and monthly audits and upload them onto the system in a timeous manner to meet the deadlines. The DCN in the absence of the SCN is also responsible for the training needs and supportive care of staff within the ward area and also the completion of staff’s yearly PDR reviews

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

  • RGN qualified and on the NMC register.
  • Nursing Degree or relevant length of experience
  • Mandatory Training
  • Learnpro Modules relevant to specific role
  • Staff member has to have extensive experience working as a qualified nurse within General Medicine.
  • Candidate has to have experience of carrying out audits within the Ward setting.
  • Candidate has to have experience of being a coordinator within the unit.
  • Experience reviewing off-duty and covering shifts
  • .Competent in Drug administration as well as Intravenous Drug Administration
  • Delegation skills
  • Risk assessments
  • Care planning/delivery Online hand hygiene and blood transfusion modules are required for this post.
  • Good communication skills (both written and orally) and interpersonal skills.
  • Good listening skills and maturity in order to deal with very complex staff and patients concerns
  • Good timekeeping and flexible in working hours.
  • Good organisational and delegation skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, judgement and problem solving skills.
  • Proven leadership qualities and skills
  • Works on own initiative and as part of a team.
