Job overview

We are looking for friendly, flexible and conscientious people with a love of cleaning to join our team of cleaning at Wansbeck General Hospital.

Various positions open - 18 to 30 hour posts.

Shifts worked are usually either 7am - 1pm, 12pm-6pm or 1pm - 7pm and will include working a share of weekends and Bank Holidays.

Other hours may also be available.

Main duties of the job

Quite simply, the NHS could not function without our cleaning operatives!

Every single service in the Trust relies on the cleaning operative teams to keep the place clean and safe for patients, visitors and staff. You’ll be part of a team striving to maintain the highest cleanliness standards in wards, departments, corridors and offices, and in doing so making a real difference to the NHS.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To complete a range of routine work procedures such as:

  • Cleaning of floor areas as scheduled by means of vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
  • Undertake “deep cleans” in areas where infection is present
  • Removal of rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas to disposal point.
  • Cleaning of sanitary areas, toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas.
  • Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails.
  • Cleaning of internal glass.
  • Taking down and putting up of curtains.
  • Scheduled cleaning of chairs.
  • Scheduled cleaning of carpets.
  • To wash walls (shoulder height) fitting and windows where required.
  • Use all equipment and materials in a correct and safe manner.
  • Report all faults queries or problems to the Ward Manager/Domestic Supervisor.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all work areas.
  • Carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage.
  • Participate in training programmes relevant to efficiency, fire drills, hygiene, the requirements of the health and safety at Work regulations and other courses as deemed necessary for the efficient working of the department.
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
