This position may involve working across a range of needs and ages, supporting children and their families at universal, targeted and specialist levels through the Balanced System approach. We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, committed and dynamic speech and language therapists who will provide an excellent service to the young people of Stockport.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will hold a Degree/Masters level qualification or equivalent and be a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. They will also be registered as a Speech and Language Therapist with the HCPC.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working with children as a Speech and Language Therapist. This experience could have been gained in a range of settings such as community clinics, child development teams, mainstream or special schools. They will have a good grasp of the SEND Code of Practice, universal, targeted and specialist approaches and experience of working with partners to achieve the best possible outcomes. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously.

We are currently recruiting to a number of positions which may cover mainstream or special schools, as well as other duties within the team covering all ages.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidates will primarily be working in schools settings across Stockport though working with other ages may also be covered.

The post involves working directly with children with a range of Speech, Language and Communication Needs and alongside their families, health care and education staff to provide universal and targeted intervention approaches as well as detailed assessment. This may be through 1:1, small group, whole class/school work and involves coaching and training for the wider workforce and / or parents.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrates specialist clinical skills across a range of SLCN
  • Demonstrates an understanding the legal responsibilities of the profession
  • Demonstrates knowledge of working in community therapy services and paediatric services
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legislation relating to children, e.g. SEND, safeguarding

Desirable

  • Demonstrates knowledge in a specific area of interest

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as part of a children’s therapy team and multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Experience of student or therapy assistant supervision. 2-excellent
  • Demonstrates participation in complex discharge planning.
  • Experience of working in EY settings / schools providing SLT programmes
  • Experience using EPR
  • Experience of writing SALT advice for EHCPs

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC and RCSLT
  • Degree in SALT
  • • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical fields of paediatrics

Desirable

  • Involvement with special Clinical Interest Group.
  • Evidence of Post Grad training / Qualifications
