Barnet Children’s Integrated Therapies have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and self‑motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our team. This is a 0.6 WTE (3 days per week) permanent post.
This role involves working with children and young people aged 0–19 years across a variety of settings. You will work collaboratively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), alongside education, health and social care professionals, to deliver coordinated, child-centred care and achieve the best possible outcomes. You will manage a diverse and rewarding caseload, supporting children and young people with a wide range of needs, including physical disabilities, developmental coordination difficulties, neurodevelopmental differences, sensory processing differences and complex needs.
You will have opportunities for Agile working arrangements including the provision of mobile technology and flexible working hours and arrangements.
Main duties of the job
About the Role
OTs in Barnet work as part of a dynamic Integrated Therapy Team. The wider service supports children and young people across a range of settings including special schools, mainstream schools and clinics, with needs ranging from mild to highly complex.
Your role will include:
Providing specialist assessment, advice and intervention in 1:1 and group settings
Working collaboratively with school staff to embed therapeutic strategies
Educating and upskilling those around the child so that strategies can be embedded into daily routines.
Providing Universal OT support through delivering training and drop in sessions for early identification of needs.

Knowledge
Essential
- A broad range of clinical conditions in children and young people
- Understanding of the difference between Universal, targeted and specialist service provision.
Desirable
- Understanding of the tribunal process and EHCPs.
- Knowledge of the current evidence base around parent coaching, home programmes, supporting sensory processing differences and goal directed therapy.
Experience
Essential
- Specialist skills in completing functional assessments for school aged children, analysing their independence and participation.
- Previous experience working in schools.
- Experience supporting children and young people with physical disabilities and understanding the impact on daily functioning.
- Sound understanding of confidentiality
- Experience developing therapy programmes and treatment advice and upskilling those around the child to carry out.
Desirable
- Previous NHS experience
- Experience completing assessments of the upper limb including muscle tone, range of movement, posturing and quality of movements.
- Experience using parent coaching approaches to upskill and empower families to implement occupational therapy strategies effectively within the home environment.
- Experience of the development and implementation of training programmes for school staff/ parents.
- Clinical supervision and oversight to junior team members.
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Skills & Abilities
Essential
- Able to independently manage own clinical caseload and prioritize as required
- Demonstrates effective communication skills with all disciplines and agencies. This includes clear, concise verbal and written reporting skills
- IT skills including MS Teams, updating spreadsheets, and navigating clinical IT systems to maintain accurate and efficient records.
- Excellent presentation skills of complex information
- Ability to produce clear, concise, and clinically robust reports outlining needs, provision, and therapy recommendations.
Training and Qualification
Essential
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
- Evidence of continued Professional Development related to the post.
Desirable
- Clinical educator training
- Member of RCOT
