Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Chef to join our Catering Services team. There are 2 posts available with the following hours:-
Post 1 - 37.5 hrs to be worked 06:00 - 14:00 and 10.30 - 18:30 over various days as part of 4 week rota
Post 2 - 30 hours to be worked 06:00 - 14:00 and 10.30 - 18:30 over various days as part of 4 week rota
Main duties of the job
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals to a high standard, including special diets and allergen-controlled meals
- Follow recipes, production methods and NHS catering standards to ensure consistency and quality
- Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, HACCP procedures and allergen management requirements
- Monitor food quality, temperatures and production records, maintaining accurate documentation.
- Assist with stock control, ordering and minimising food waste.
- Support and supervise catering assistants and contribute to staff induction and training.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and health and safety at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors and colleagues

Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in large-scale catering operation as a chef, preferably in a hospital or care setting.
- Working knowledge of Food safety Legislation, HACCP principles, COSHH and Allergen management
Qualifications
Essential
- Knowledge of various cooking techniques, including conventional and cook freeze catering models, stock control, food safety management and special dietary requirements of patients and/or customers in line with NHS Food and Hydration standards.
- A relevant cookery qualification Level 2 or equivalent as well as significant experience working in a large-scale catering operation.
- Level 3 Food Safety qualification
- Allergen Management qualification.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 Professional Cookery

- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong multitasking and organisational skills to deliver a quality food service within time constraints to patients. staff and visitors
- Capability to work well within a team and manage staff when necessary to maintain the service.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively
- Capacity to work within time limits and under pressure.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure temperature monitoring paperwork and cleaning schedules are updated as necessary
- Good IT skills
- Willingness to respond to unexpected changes and adopt a flexible approach.
Desirable
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
