Oldham Early Intervention Team are looking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist/CBT therapist with a special interest in working with first episode psychosis and people at risk of developing psychotic symptoms to join our well established, multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Oldham Early Intervention Team provides evidence based psychological therapies for people who are experiencing first episode psychosis or who are at risk of developing Psychosis. The post holder will provide evidence based CBT for EIT patients who have been allocated under First Episode Psychosis (FEP) or At Risk Mental State (ARMS) The post holder will be able to work with on a 1-1 and within a group setting delivering interventions. The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities

Essential
- Knowledge of the needs of individuals experiencing a first episode psychosis/ ARMS
- A high level of knowledge about evidence based psychological therapies (Including cognitive behaviour therapy and family intervention) for psychosis
- A high level of knowledge and expertise about Early Intervention for Psychosis.
Desirable
- Demonstrates an awareness of key policy/legislation relevant to Early Intervention/Early Detection services
- A high level of knowledge about the evidence base for interventions for an ARMS
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and its application to Early Intervention and ARMS services.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with a wide variety of service users with complex needs, including clients who have experienced complex trauma and psychosis
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community and primary care settings.
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of the application of psychological knowledge in different cultural contexts
- Experience of working with relatives/carers of individuals experiencing mental health difficulties
- Experience of providing teaching/training and supervision to psychologists and non-psychologists/mental health trained staff.
Desirable
- Previous experience of working within an EI service (e.g. specialist placement, previous employment in the early intervention service or participation in a research trial).
- Experience of delivering Family Intervention for first episode psychosis
- Experience of working with clients with at risk mental state (ARMS)
- Experience in the use of psychosis-specific semi structured interviews (e.g. PANSS; CAARMS)
- Experience of contributing to and/or leading on audits/service evaluations
- Relevant research experience

Essential
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and / or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients and their supporters
- Ability to carry out thorough risk assessments and produce safety plans collaboratively with patients and their supporters.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to use own initiative, organise time effectively and to work under supervision where appropriate.
- Able to manage periods of prolonged concentration in client’s sessions and in administration task.
Education/Qualifications
Essential
- Doctorate level training in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS Or Post graduate qualification in CBT with a core profession (i.e. nursing, social work, occupational therapy)
- BABCP accreditation
Desirable
- Post graduate training in CBT for psychosis
- Postgraduate training in Family Intervention (for psychosis)
Work Related Circumstances
Essential
- Willingness to complete training in additional therapeutic approaches
- Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
- Willing to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunities and Equality and Diversity policies
- Appointments to regulated and controlled activities require an enhanced DBS disclosure
