Job overview

The post holder will provide leadership and day-to-day oversight for Assistant Cardiac Practitioners and Senior Assistant Cardiac Practitioners, supporting their development, training, and effective deployment within the service. They will be a fully rotational member of the Cardiac Physiology team, delivering high-quality non-invasive cardiac diagnostic services across all areas of the department. The role involves performing a range of  cardiac physiology investigations, contributing to the efficient delivery of patient-centred care, and supporting the ongoing provision and development of cardiac services in line with local and national standards.

Main duties of the job

Deliver and support a comprehensive range of non-invasive cardiology services, including ECG, ambulatory monitoring, ETT, DSE, DSE, e-bike testing, echocardiography support, and ward-based/outreach investigations, ensuring high standards of patient care and accurate diagnostic data collection.

Analyse ambulatory monitoring data, support implantable cardiac monitor (ICM) implantation and remote monitoring programmes, assist with cardiac rhythm management (CRM) device monitoring, and produce factual reports under the supervision of senior cardiac physiologists.

Lead the training, mentorship and competency assessment of Assistant Cardiac Practitioners, Senior Assistant Cardiac Practitioners, students and newly appointed staff, supporting workforce development across Royal Berkshire Hospital and satellite sites.

Support the operational management of non-invasive cardiology services through staff rota coordination, equipment tracking and servicing, stock control, safety compliance, activity reporting, and effective resource management to ensure efficient service delivery.

Contribute to clinical governance, quality assurance and service improvement initiatives, including recruitment and selection, incident reporting, risk management, health and safety compliance, staff meetings, resuscitation readiness, audit participation and continuous service development, ensuring safe, effective and patient-centred cardiology services that meet

Principal Responsibilities

• Act as a lead practitioner, mentor and trainer for Assistant Cardiac Practitioners, Senior Assistant Cardiac Practitioners and Newly Qualified Cardiac Physiologists, supporting clinical competency, professional development and workforce capability.
• Undertake and support the delivery of a broad range of non-invasive cardiology investigations, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care in accordance with departmental and organisational requirements.
• Maintain and promote high standards of technical competence, clinical practice and professional conduct within the provision of non-invasive cardiology services, ensuring compliance with national guidelines, local policies and departmental protocols.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and the continual development of non-invasive cardiology services through the promotion of best practice, innovation and evidence-based care.
• Demonstrate and actively promote the Trust's CARE Values in all aspects of patient care, service delivery and team working, acting as a professional role model for colleagues across the department.
