The Cardiac Non-Invasive Physiology Department at the Denmark Hill site provides a wide range of specialist diagnostic services, including Exercise Tolerance Testing (ETT), Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), arrhythmia analysis, syncope services, and cardiac rhythm management (CRM) device follow-up. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our supportive and patient-focused team within a busy and dynamic service.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills in cardiac physiology through structured, work-based training across a broad range of non-invasive diagnostic investigations. The successful candidate will independently perform basic cardiology investigations and support the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services for both inpatient and outpatient pathways.

Key duties include analysing 24-hour and 7-day Holter recordings, assisting with exercise tolerance testing, head-up tilt testing, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and implantable loop recorder (ILR) implantation; while ensuring safe and effective patient care at all times.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role include delivering a comprehensive non-invasive cardiac diagnostics service, including performing and analysing ECGs, ambulatory ECG and BP monitoring and interpretation, as well as assisting with Exercise Tolerance Testing (ETT), Head-Up Tilt Testing (HUTT), and Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), and assisting in implantable loop recorder (ILR) implantation.

The post holder will independently undertake a range of non-invasive cardiac investigations while providing high-quality, patient-centred care for both inpatient and outpatient services. Responsibilities include accurate analysis and reporting of cardiac investigations to support timely diagnosis and clinical decision-making.

The successful candidate will maintain professional conduct at all times and work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support the department’s objectives and ensure an efficient diagnostic service.

The role also requires adherence to all Trust, professional, and local policies and procedures to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based practice. In addition, the post holder will contribute to maintaining high standards of health and safety, clinical governance, and patient care in line with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and relevant legislation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for competently performing and analysing resting ECGs, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure holter monitoring, and supporting a range of specialist cardiac investigations following appropriate training. These include Exercise Tolerance Testing (ETT), Exercise Stress Echocardiography (ESE), Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), Head-Up Tilt Table Testing (HUTT), and assisting in implantable loop recorder (ILR) implantation .

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused non-invasive cardiac diagnostics service for both inpatient and outpatient pathways. Duties include accurate analysis and reporting of investigations, maintaining clinical records and databases, and ensuring timely escalation of abnormal findings or technical concerns where appropriate.

The role requires effective teamwork and active participation in departmental meetings, service development, quality improvement initiatives, and maintaining technical standards. The post holder will manage their workload efficiently, demonstrate professional conduct at all times, and work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support departmental objectives and service delivery.

The post holder will also support the supervision and development of junior staff and trainees, including PTP and STP students, contributing to teaching and wider educational activities within the Trust.
