Job summary

The successful candidate will join a skilled multidisciplinary team including Consultants, Specialty Registrars, Specialist Doctors, ACPs, PAs, CNSs, Pharmacists and administrative staff, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across the West Midlands and beyond.

This senior SAS role requires significant clinical autonomy and specialist expertise. The post holder will manage their own caseload, including complex patients within their scope of practice, while working closely with consultants and colleagues across acute and tertiary services.

The role offers experience in CAR T-cell therapy, stem cell transplantation, systemic anti-cancer therapies and Acute Oncology, alongside opportunities in teaching, service development, quality improvement and supervision of junior colleagues.

UHB delivers a comprehensive tertiary Haematology service, including CAR T-cell therapy, stem cell transplantation, gene-edited stem cell therapy, TYA cancer care, therapeutic apheresis, specialist diagnostics, haemophilia services, gene therapy and TTP care.

The ATMP/CAR T-cell programme, part of the Birmingham Centre for Cellular Therapy & Transplant (BCCTT), is one of the largest in the UK, treating approximately 50-60 CAR T-cell patients annually and undertaking over 300 cellular therapies each year. The programme has a strong research profile supported by regular MDT, governance and strategic meetings.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Doctor will work as a senior clinician within the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating a high level of clinical autonomy and specialist expertise. The post holder will manage a broad range of patient presentations within their defined scope of practice.

The post holder will:

* Manage their own caseload, including complex patients, and where appropriate act as the responsible named clinician.

* Provide specialist care for Haematology patients receiving CAR T-cell therapies, other ATMPs, systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and Acute Oncology services.

* Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals across acute and tertiary specialties to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

* Contribute to the full patient pathway from assessment and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up.

* Play an active role within MDTs and contribute to leadership of clinical pathways where appropriate.

* Support service delivery, quality improvement and service development initiatives.

* Participate in teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff and the wider MDT.

* Engage in clinical governance, audit, CPD, appraisal and revalidation activities.

* Work with consultant colleagues who will provide ongoing clinical support, mentorship and oversight.
