Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Fitness Instructor to support the development, delivery, and ongoing improvement of the Airedale Active Together Programme.
Active Together is a multimodal oncology prehabilitation and rehabilitation service developed by the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) at Sheffield Hallam University and funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research. It aims to help people prepare for cancer treatment, recover more effectively, and maintain healthy lifestyles beyond diagnosis.
Reporting to the Service Therapy Manager and Lead Physiotherapist, the post holder will deliver the physical activity component of the programme, contributing to a high-quality, inclusive, multidisciplinary service.
Key responsibilities include leading group exercise sessions, delivering one-to-one support, carrying out clinical assessments, and completing administrative tasks. Collaborative working across the multidisciplinary team is essential.
Daily access to a car is required.
Based at Skipton Hospital, the team is small and supportive, with a strong focus on delivering excellent patient care and experience throughout the cancer journey.
Main duties of the job
- Work under Physiotherapist guidance to deliver prehabilitation and rehabilitation for people living with and beyond cancer.
- Manage a caseload across all stages of the cancer pathway.
- Contribute to MDT meetings, raising and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Complete administrative duties, including accurate recording, monitoring, and auditing of assessments and outcomes.
- Oversee waiting lists and caseloads, ensuring smooth patient pathways.Deliver physical activity programmes (1:1 and group) across multiple sites for patients undergoing oncology treatments.
- Monitor patient progress and adapt programmes to ensure safe, effective care.
- Promote healthy living and support behaviour change.Provide personalised care using a “what matters to you” approach.Address health inequalities and promote inclusion in service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with patients, carers, MDT, and external partners.
- Communicate complex and sensitive information clearly and empathetically.
