We are excited to share this opportunity to join our Bladder and Bowel Team as a band 6  Specialist Nurse . The post will be in total 60  hours based at either Heysham Health Centre or Westmorland General Hospital. We are happy to negotiate how these hours are split depending on the interest.

Your role will be working bay wide across South Cumbria and North Lancashire within the Community Cancer, Diagnostics and End of Life.

Your role will include working as part of a team to provide the best possible care for patients with complex bladder and bowel needs. It will be a combination of  a clinic/domiciliary based work model. Providing health promotion across disciplines while supporting and teaching community teams to competently undertake a L1 Bladder and Bowel Assessment.

Continued learning is integral to developing into a specialist and further development within your specialist role.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining an enthusiastic and motivated team who are friendly and approachable. We are very patient focused and staff  development is  high on our agenda. As part of our team we want to develop all staff to the highest standard.  We welcome and encourage shared ideas in the  development of our service in line with National and Local policies.

The role requires excellent communication skills, as you will be undertaking complex nursing assessments and developing and  delivering programmes of care for patients and carers. You will also teach  health professionals, patients and their families/carers to use devices to support a healthy bladder and bowel.

As a specialist nurse your main duties will be to undertake clinics in various clinic settings. Manage a clinical caseload and provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients with bladder and bowel dysfunction. Utilise Level 1 & 2  care pathways and recognise when to make onward referrals to other health professionals/services as appropriate.

Triage referrals from all sources, electronic and paper.

You will need to work collaboratively with other professionals, voluntary sectors and informal carers to promote excellent care for  patients in their own homes and community settings.

Manage your own diary effectively while meeting the ever changing demands of the service.  Support staff appraisals/supervisions within your senior role.
