Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician to lead on our biosimilar implementation projects, working closely with our High Cost Drugs Specialist Pharmacists, Procurement team, and clinical teams, you will facilitate the seamless transition of patients onto biosimilar medicines.

You will horizon scan and identify upcoming product releases that will have significant financial benefits to the NHS and develop implementation plans to ensure the swift utilisation of these products, using EMIS and the Blueteq database to project impact of upcoming product releases on budgets and annual high cost drug budget.

You will improve and maintain systems and processes for high quality data reporting and analysis, working closely with colleagues in finance to facilitate this.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will work with Specialist High Cost Drugs Pharmacists to develop and implement a range of complex cost improvement and transformation projects that will deliver on national and local targets. You will lead the implementation of specific complex therapy switching projects, which will  include engagement with relevant clinical, Pharmacy, and governance staff.

You will be a confident communicator - maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders throughout each project. You will be adept at breaking down complex financial data to inform your audience, showing your familiarity with each project. You will have excellent attention to detail and be able to manage multiple projects running simultaneously, as well as delivering on deadlines for each project.

You will proactively seek out efficiencies relating to medicines - namely biosimilar and generic medicine switches - formulating a plan for the implementation of these therapies and regularly reporting on the delivery of the plan.

You will work well with others - ensuring key stakeholder engagement throughout each project. You will be able to deliver different types of information to different audiences, for example our Drugs and Therapeutics Committee, Governance meetings, and clinical team meetings.

You will provide specialist clinical services and advice around the use, management, and effective clinical governance regarding high cost drugs and biosimilars. For therapies delivered via Pharmacy Homecare you will support the Senior Homecare Pharmacy Technician in delivering on these  switches and in ensuring effective contracting and clinical governance arrangements.

On a more practical day-to-day element you will support the training of new staff on the use of Blueteq, as well as supporting clinical teams with the implementation of commissioning polices that may impact the services they provide.
