Work to necessary standards within the guidelines of Health and Safety, following Standard Operating Procedures. Performs more technical support tasks under supervision.
The Cellular Pathology Department is looking for enthusiastic people to join our professional team at Swansea Bay University Health Board.
We are a busy department, processing over 35,000 specimens per year. You will be working as part of professional team, who are committed to providing a high quality service to the patients of Swansea Bay HB.
There are also many training opportunities, with full training being provided. Also there are exciting opportunities for career development within the department and the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
We are currently looking to fill full time and part time vacancies in our very busy department. We are primarily based at Singleton Hospital but there will be a requirement to work at Morriston Hospital.
You will be required to carry out laboratory-based support tasks to include specimen reception, data entry and preparation of specimens for processing and reporting.
We are looking for a well organised person able to work to tight schedules, who will use their own initiative.
You must have good communication skills as this role requires continuous communication with all levels of staff to ensure that work is processed in a timely and efficient manner. In house training will be provided
The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential for this role.

Essential
- Demonstrable experience of knowledge, skills and experience at NVQ 3 level.
Desirable
- Worked in laboratory environment, understanding of pathology service.
- Working in an NHS environment
Qualification
Essential
- NVQ level 3 or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience
Desirable
- Basic keyboard qualification. (ECDL)
- Any science related qualification
- Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Awareness of policies and procedures relating to dealing with confidential data, both personal and organisational
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential
- Ability to work on own initiative and manage own workload Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure to organise multiply tasks
- Good written and verbal communication skills
