Job summary

This vacancy is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship. Please do not apply unless you have another means of establishing a right to work, or you are already employed by the NHS and would transfer to the pay point at the top of Band 5. Our work in Cellular and Molecular Therapies (CMT) is central to the provision and improvement of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This work enables us to support approximately half of stem cell transplants carried out in England each year through a network of GMP grade laboratories. We also carry out translational research and development activities with academic and commercial partners to ensure we are at the forefront of improvements to transplantation and related fields.

You will be working as part of a laboratory team, including clinical and biomedical scientists together with other health care professionals. You will be involved in the production of cell therapies and the role you perform will directly contribute to saving and improving patients lives.

You will have the opportunity to learn new skills particularly related to the production of new cell therapies which are being developed for testing in clinical trials. There are many opportunities for career advancement in this exciting and fast developing area of clinical care. We will provide you with an extensive induction and training programme and ongoing development to support you in your role and achieving your career ambitions.

Main duties of the job

We work with peripheral blood derived stem cells, umbilical cord blood and bone marrow cells, collected for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. We have close partnerships with various transplant programmes and other groups undertaking clinical trials, ground-breaking research and service development.

The successful applicant will be highly motivated, team focused with good time management skills, and above all a willingness to muck in with whatever tasks are required at the time.

The work will involve routine service provision, specialist cell processing, and/or other service support or development activities. We would expect the successful candidate to be flexible and willing to adapt.

Experience of working in a CMT laboratory, and familiarity with stem cell processing and/or flow cytometry techniques would be an advantage.

Candidates will be required to participate in the department on call rota, following appropriate training, which may involve weekend and/or weekday evening/overnight cover, the details of which can be discussed at interview.

The role may require you to work variable hours and days, weekends and bank holidays as per the roster within the department (unless otherwise rostered within the shift agreement) with appropriate notice, depending on specialty.
