Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Biomedical Science Assistant to join the Coagulation Department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

Our department provides comprehensive diagnostic and support services to inpatients, outpatients, and general practitioners. Additionally, we offer a variety of specialised coagulation services related to bleeding disorders and thrombosis.

The department handles a substantial volume of blood samples from the South Yorkshire region and beyond.

As a post holder, you will be responsible for receiving and managing these samples, including the transfer of samples to and from frozen storage at low temperatures.

You will also be involved in entering patient data into our laboratory information system. Working hours would be 10:00 until 18:00, with a 30-minute lunch break, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Beyond primary diagnostic procedures, our department plays a significant national and international role in the calibration of laboratory standards and reagents for coagulation assays. We also engage in commissioned commercial work from diagnostic and pharmaceutical companies.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills and demonstrate a willingness to work at the Northern General Hospital site as needed. Candidates should be adaptable, proactive and keen to contribute to our vital services.
