As senior members of the team support and guide the team to provide a stable, consistent, calm and nurturing environment and approach to daily practice.
Take the lead in completing care planning, assessing, implementation, and evaluation care daily care provided. Work alongside the management and the key team to reviewing duties in relation to the development of care plans for young people and when appropriate their families/carers.
Demonstrating an understanding that the children/young people’s behaviours forms of communication and learned coping skills to express themselves. Support the team to look what is being communicated and promote a culture of focus on what is lying beneath the behaviour and not on the presenting behaviour alone.
Responding to the needs of young people that demonstrates an ability to remain calm, respectful and understanding of young people’s needs whilst also demonstrating practice that reflects the models of care that underpin the ethos of the home, Positive Behaviour Support, Trauma Informed Care, Signs of Success, restrictive practice reduction and Safety Intervention (SI) formally known as Management of Actual and Potential Aggression, MAPA.
Undertakes the direct care of children and young people, which involves ensuring that their social, emotional, health, educational, spiritual and physical needs are met as fully as possible. Direct care may include practical tasks such personal care, serving food, promoting independence development.
Undertakes key-working responsibilities in relation to specific children and young people and seeks to ensure that they develop social and life skills that will give them the capacity for companionship and co-operation with other people and for self-fulfilment.
Take the lead in the effective discharge of Statutory Functions regarding the children in the Home (including LAC Reviews etc.).
Contribute to the work of the Trust through Staff Development Reviews, Personal Contribution Plans, Personal Development Plan and appraisal.
Supervise and support the development of Nursing students as appropriate.
The residential Nurse will undertake duties under current legislation and Trust and Board policy and practice pertaining to children & young people within the Residential Service and contribute to the development of the quality and standard of care in the home.
Comply with Health & Safety requirements.
Assists with the care of the total group of children and young people who are resident in the home.
Prepare and submits reports for a variety of formal and informal settings.
To participate in staff meetings, consultations, group discussions and formal supervision as required.
To maintain accurate and up to date records as required.
To act in accordance with all Trust policies and procedures.
To participate in staff training programmes as appropriate.
Alongside the management team co-ordinate and facilitate the development and implementation of appropriate and effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.

Assist in the collection, collation and analysis of agreed statistics.

Environmental Cleaning Strategy
The Trusts Environmental Cleaning Strategy recognizes the key principle that “Cleanliness matters is everyone’s responsibility, not just the cleaners” Whilst there are staff employed who are responsible for cleaning services, all Trust staff have a responsibility to ensure a clean, comfortable, safe environment for patients, clients, residents, visitors, staff and members of the general public.
Infection Prevention and Control
The Belfast Trust is committed to reducing Healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) and all staff have a part to play in making this happen. Staff must comply with all policies in relation to Infection Prevention and Control and with ongoing reduction strategies. Standard Infection Prevention and Control Precautions must be used at all times to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
This includes:-
Cleaning hands either with soap and water or a hand sanitiser at the appropriate times (WHO ‘5 moments’);
Using the correct ‘7 step’ hand hygiene technique;
Being ‘bare below the elbows’ when in a clinical environment;
Following Trust policies and the Regional Infection Control Manual (found on intranet);
Wearing the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
Ensuring correct handling and disposal of waste (including sharps) and laundry;
Ensuring all medical devices (equipment) are decontaminated appropriately i.e. cleaned, disinfected and/or sterilised;
Ensuring compliance with High Impact Interventions.
