JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: Clinical Specialist MRI Radiographer
GRADE: Band 7
LOCATION: Imaging, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust
DIRECTORATE: TOR & IMO
REPORTS TO: Imaging Site Lead
RESPONSIBLE TO: Imaging/Clinical Site Leads
Job Summary / Main Purpose
To assist in the organisation and management and actively participate in the provision of the MRI Imaging service. The post holder must ensure that a high quality, efficient and effective service is available at all times. The post holder will work closely with Imaging and other key stakeholders to deliver a patient focused service in an environment of professional excellence.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
PROFESSIONAL
Set and maintain high standards of clinical imaging and personalised patient care
To ensure MRI principles and safe working practices are adhered to at all times.
Supervise MRI staff (including research radiographer/s), students, and support staff and maintain appropriate staff records
Assist with annual staff appraisal and personal development plans as required within the MRI team
Maintain a strong clinical commitment
Take responsibility for their own professional development in the role, in accordance with HCPC Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
Assist with the management of prioritisation of MRI requests in keeping with department protocols.
Participate in the training of all staff in MRI and ensure competency-based training in place.
Participate in the departmental Quality Assurance programme.
Assist in the procurement of MRI equipment and manage the equipment resources within MRI department as required
Participate in service improvement projects, Imaging Accreditation scheme, Investors in People and BRATT.
Assist with the development and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures across the service.
Ensure a safe environment for patient care and in the absence of same, to report to the Imaging Site Lead and the appropriate departments.
To assist with the investigation and analysis of incidents, ensure learning is identified and change implemented, promoting a positive safety culture.
To assist in the investigation of complaints relevant to the service area.
Participate in on-call, shift duties and out-of-hours rotas and cross-site working as required by the service.
Participate in weekend working as part of a normal working week as required by the service.
Undertake the duties of the post in accordance with Unit and Directorate policies, including the Health and Safety at Work Order (1978) and MHRA Safety Guidelines.
ADMINISTRATION
Assist in the strategic planning, organisation and implementation of an effective radiographic imaging service, with particular responsibility for MRI.
Ensure the smooth operation of an efficient MRI service on a daily basis through the effective organisation and co-ordination of tasks and the efficient management of resources.
Contribute to the formulation, development, and implementation of technical, safety and clinical departmental policies and protocols.
Assist with organisation of rota’s/annual/study leave as required, to ensure that the operational areas are appropriately covered at all times
Provide managerial and professional support to the MRI Lead Radiographer as required
Maintain accurate and concise records to provide the data necessary for the evaluation and development of the service.
PERSONNEL
Participate in recruitment/selection procedures
Management of disciplinary/grievance/attendance/performance procedures
Ensure that there is an induction programme for new members of staff and to participate as necessary.
Participate in the Trusts Personal Development and Contribution programme for radiographic and support staff.
Communicate effectively with patients, staff and the public including those with specific needs, e.g., those with learning difficulties and challenging behaviours
EDUCATIONAL
Consider staff welfare, identify training needs and ensure that effective educational programmes are implemented.
Foster an atmosphere conducive to education, audit and research.
Post holder is required to promote and participate in clinical research relevant to the role and co-operate with other affiliated research as required.
Participate in the multi-disciplinary Clinical Audit.
To provide MRI safety training/guidance for Medical/Nursing staff as appropriate.

Environmental Cleaning Strategy
The Trusts Environmental Cleaning Strategy recognizes the key principle that “Cleanliness matters is everyone’s responsibility, not just the cleaners” Whilst there are staff employed who are responsible for cleaning services, all Trust staff have a responsibility to ensure a clean, comfortable, safe environment for patients, clients, residents, visitors, staff and members of the general public.
Infection Prevention and Control
The Belfast Trust is committed to reducing Healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) and all staff have a part to play in making this happen. Staff must comply with all policies in relation to Infection Prevention and Control and with ongoing reduction strategies. Standard Infection Prevention and Control Precautions must be used at all times to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
This includes
Cleaning hands either with soap and water or a hand sanitiser at the appropriate times (WHO ‘5 moments’);
Using the correct ‘7 step’ hand hygiene technique;
Being ‘bare below the elbows’ when in a clinical environment;
