JOB DESCRIPTION

POST: Advanced Podiatrist for Diabetes and High Risk Caseload (BANK)

LOCATION: Belfast HSCT Podiatry

BAND: 7 - BANK

REPORTS TO: Assistant Podiatry Manager

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Podiatry Services

Job Summary / Main Purpose

Assess and treat caseloads with high risk complexities in hospital, community and other settings and maintain associated records.

Take a clinical lead role for the high risk caseload including the use of complex interventions.

Will also support the implementation of the objectives of the Podiatry service and ensure the delivery of effective multidisciplinary working in partnership with internal and external agencies.

Undertake training of students and other staff and may undertake research.

To prescribe as a Non-Medical Prescriber in line with HCPC annotation, rights to prescribe and Trust policy. A commitment to undertake NMP qualification if not already obtained.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

The post holder in conjunction with the Assistant Podiatry Manager(s) will be expected to undertake the following duties;

Service Delivery

Support in the re-organisation and development of Podiatry Services and make recommendations to the Assistant Podiatry Manager to help address the Reform and Modernisation Agenda.

Hold a specialist clinical caseload within the service area and act as a clinical resource to provide expert guidance and support on complex clinical issues within the service area, to trust wide podiatrists and multiple agencies where complicated and sensitive issues must be accurately communicated.

Be able to carry out specialist interventions.

Ensure the availability and assist in the provision of high quality practice placements within the teams for Podiatry students and others as appropriate.

Quality and Governance

Ensure the Podiatry Service is delivered in accordance with relevant professional standards and guidelines, to achieve HCPC registration, and to ensure effective and safe practice.

Assist in the processing and management of complaints in line with the DHSSPS and Trust complaints procedures as required by Assistant Podiatry Managers.

Be involved with the implementation of quality initiatives.

Engage actively in practice development evaluation, audit and research activities and apply findings to the Service on a regular and ongoing basis.

Support the Assistant Podiatry Managers (APM) in developing systems and processes to actively monitor safe clinical and social care governance.

Professional Leadership

Provide professional leadership to all staff within area of responsibility ensuring compliance with relevant professional standards and guidelines.

Lead on and promote Evidence Based Practice and provide professional leadership to staff.

Support and provide opportunities for continuous professional development within the team.

Provide supervision to members of the team.

Service Planning and Development

Support the reform and modernisation agenda, facilitating innovative ways of working.

The post holder will be required to represent the Service on project teams / working groups as nominated by the Assistant Podiatry Manager.

Develop and maintain good communication links with other members of the multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring involvement in service planning and development

Financial and Resource Management

Ensure the effective management, use and maintenance of all resources within their area of responsibility.

People Management

Provide clear leadership to staff within their area and ensure teams have a highly skilled, flexible and motivated workforce.

Ensure the effective implementation of all Trust People Management policies within their service area. To lead on staff appraisal using the Personal Contribution Framework.

Ensure the effective management of staff health and safety matters within their team.

Information Management

Ensure effective compliance and implementation of all Trust information management systems in their teams.

Ensure systems and procedures for the management and storage of information in their service area meet Trust requirements.

Compliance with all Trust IT guidelines / policies.

Environmental Cleaning Strategy

The Trusts Environmental Cleaning Strategy recognises the key principle that "Cleanliness matters is everyone's responsibility, not just the cleaners" Whilst there are staff employed who are responsible for cleaning services, all Trust staff have a responsibility to ensure a clean, comfortable, safe environment for patients, clients, residents, visitors, staff and members of the general public.

Infection Prevention and Control

The Belfast Trust is committed to reducing Healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) and all staff have a part to play in making this happen. Staff must comply with all policies in relation to Infection Prevention and Control and with ongoing reduction strategies. Standard Infection Prevention and Control Precautions must be used at all times to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

This includes:-

Cleaning hands either with soap and water or a hand sanitiser at the appropriate times (WHO '5 moments');

Using the correct '7 step' hand hygiene technique;

Being 'bare below the elbows' when in a clinical environment;

Following Trust policies and the Regional Infection Control Manual (found on intranet);

Wearing the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);

Ensuring correct handling and disposal of waste (including sharps) and laundry;

Ensuring all medical devices (equipment) are decontaminated appropriately i.e. cleaned, disinfected and/or sterilised;

Ensuring compliance with High Impact Interventions.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION

Advanced Podiatrist for Diabetes and High Risk

Caseload / Band 7

Applicants must have a Degree or Diploma in Podiatry and be registered with the HCPC.

Candidates must have a post-graduate qualification to master's level in the relevant area, (or equivalent experience).

Certificate in LA if qualified before 1980.

Minimum of 5 years' post graduate experience to include 3 years' in the relevant specialist area.

Hold a current full driving license, which is valid for use in the UK, and have access to a car on appointment.

'Where disability prohibits driving, this criteria will be waived if the applicant is able to organise suitable alternative arrangements.'

Shortlisting by Application Form

Knowledge and working experience of clinical governance processes and issues.

Knowledge and experience of evidence based practice including national guidance in the relevant clinical areas.

Applicants must demonstrate the advanced clinical skills and competencies necessary for the post.
