Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 Speech & Language Therapist, your role involves assessing, diagnosing, and delivering interventions to children with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), focusing on early years settings such as nurseries and family hubs. The position allows hybrid work arrangements based out of an office hub in Surrey. Key responsibilities include conducting assessments as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team, creating care plans, producing reports for Education, Health, and Care Plans, supervising assistants, and training carers and professionals. Essential qualifications include a recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree, HCPC registration, and experience managing a caseload. Knowledge of ASD strategies and policies on Child Protection is crucial, and a full driving license is required. Candidates with training in PCI, Hanen strategies, and Makaton signing are desirable.

As aBand 5 Speech & Language Therapist within the preschool team, you will assess, diagnose, and deliver evidence-based interventions to children with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN).
You will play a vital role in empowering parents, carers, and professionals through training, support, and collaborative working.
Your work will primarily focus on children within early years settings such as nurseries, Family Hubs, and family homes.
Base
Our Childrens Community Health Team provision supports our Surrey-wide service, and you will be based at one of our Office Hubs across Surrey with the opportunity for hybrid working.
HCRG Care Group is a flexible-first employer, whilst you will have an office base, our teams are agile and work in flexible/hybrid arrangements.
- Carrying out high-quality School Based assessments, as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) for children and young people
- Deliver high-quality SLT assessments and interventions to preschool-aged children.
- Collaborate with parents, carers, and the wider childrens workforce to create tailored care plans.
- Provide reports, including for Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Support service development and key performance targets.
- Supervise and guide SLT assistants and students.
- Plan and deliver training for carers and professionals to enhance understanding of SLCN.
- Participate in multi-agency meetings and safeguarding case conferences as required.
Essential
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent (Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy leading to registration with HCPC)
- Knowledge/training in ASD strategies and interventions e.g. PECS, SCERTS, ADOS
- Health and Care Professions Council Licence to Practice (HCPC)
- Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Member of relevant Clinical Excellence Network
- Specialist knowledge of assessments and interventions for client group
- Knowledge of national and local policies and procedures relevant to client group and role.
- Awareness of policies and procedures relating to Child Protection
- Experience of managing own caseload and to work effectively with a range of client groups
Desirable
- Knowledge /training in PCI, Hanen strategies.
- Knowledge/training in educational training packages e.g. ELKLAN, WellComm
- Knowledge/training in signing e.g. Makaton
- Demonstrable experience of working in the NHS
