Job summary
The Bank Phlebotomist will provide a safe, effective and high-quality phlebotomy service for patients across Shrewsbury Primary Care Network (PCN). The post holder will primarily be based at the Shrewsbury Health Hub (Severn Fields Health Village, Shrewsbury, SY1 4RQ), but may be required to work across our member GP practices and support extended access services according to operational need.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for undertaking venepuncture procedures, processing pathology samples, maintaining accurate patient records and supporting the smooth operations of phlebotomy clinics.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Undertake venepuncture procedures for adults and paediatric patients.
- Perform blood collection procedures on patients with difficult venous access where competent to do so.
- Ensure all specimens are collected, labelled and handled in accordance with local protocols and pathology requirements.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Escalate clinical concerns appropriately.
Administrative Duties
- Record consultations and activities within EMIS.
- Use other systems including Accurx and TQuest as required.
- Label, prepare and process pathology samples.
- Support appointment management and clinic schedules.
- Maintain stock levels and consumables.
