Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Urgent Community Response & Virtual Wards service. The post will form part of a seven day service based within one of the Trust’s locality teams. The service provides patients who are experiencing an acute change in their health a safe and effective alternative to hospital admission, supported by a mixture of face to face visits and digital technology.

We are looking for a Registered Paramedic who shares our passion for providing excellent quality of care and can help devise & deliver a recommended and agreed treatment/care plan to service users in their own home. The post holder will have full access to the Multidisciplinary Team including consultant, GP, Pharmacist, Nurses, Therapists, and Health Care Support Workers.

Main duties of the job

As a service which is at the forefront of the NHS Long Term Plan agenda to develop, the Urgent Community Response and Virtual Wards services aim to improve our local system responsiveness to managing community health crisis response services, the role on offer represents an ideal opportunity for a Registered Paramedic to join the established Multidisciplinary Team and continue to help shape our future. Working alongside medics, social workers, therapists, and in partnership with GPs, Shropdoc, 111, WMAS, the Local Authority and other healthcare professionals your role will be to ensure the continuation of a seamless service to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

The successful applicants will require the appropriate skills and knowledge and be registered with the HPCP as well as share the Trusts vision to provide assessment and delivery of comprehensive, holistic, evidence-based nursing and care support for the management of acutely unwell patients referred to the team.

You will also need to be flexible to work rotas between 08:00-00:00, 7 days a week including bank holidays, to meet the service needs. You may on occasion be required to work in alternative community locations to meet the service requirements.

As part of your role and to further develop your clinical skills, the service is also committed to providing clinical support, continuous professional development & training.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstration of core Paramedic skills relating to cannulation, delivery of IV medications, airway management and stepwise approach to patient assessment using CAcBCDE approach – or demonstration of own scope of practice and willingness to undertake Trust training in other skills as deemed necessary for the role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in complex contentious and sensitive situations.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and adapt to change.
  • Problem solving ability.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of post-qualification personal and professional development.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Experience of supervision, mentorship, and development of a range of clinical staff in relevant practice settings.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered HCPC Paramedic Qualification.
  • Health Assessment and Examination in clinical practice or equivalent or a willingness to work towards; within 2 years of commencing post in accordance with funding and course availability.
  • Extended/Supplementary Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification or willingness to work towards; within 2 years of commencing post in accordance with funding and course availability.
  • Minor Illness and Minor Injuries (level 6) course or willingness to work towards; within 2 years of commencing post in accordance with funding and course availability.
  • Should demonstrate an up-to-date record of CPD of mixed activities which have contributed to practice development.
