Main duties of the job

Join Elysium Healthcare as a Bank Painter and Decorator at Thornford Park to create a well-presented and safe environment. You'll undertake decorating tasks, maintain safe practices when using tools, and follow site security. Responsibilities include leading decorating tasks, preparing surfaces, applying paint using brushes or sprayers, repairing painted surfaces, and ensuring work meets high standards. You'll assist with material procurement, keep the work area clean, follow health and safety guidelines, perform regular building checks, assist the maintenance team, and coordinate on-site contractors. Successful candidates need previous painting experience, people skills, ability to work under pressure, and a full UK driving license with vehicle access.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading all decorating tasks
• Proper preparation of surfaces for painting
• Applying paint, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers (where risk assessed)
• Repairing and maintaining painted surfaces, including touch-ups and refinishing
• Ensuring all decorating work is completed to a high standard and within project timelines
• Assisting with the selection and procurement of painting and decorating materials through the correct protocol
• Maintaining a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored
• Following health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
• Assisting in regular checks, repairs, and maintenance of all buildings
• Assisting the maintenance team where required and cover maintenance duties for periods of absence
• Assisting with coordinating and chaperoning contractors on-site, completing any required paperwork

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

• Previous experience in Painting and Decorating
• Face-to-face experience of dealing with people
• Ability to work under pressure, and respond to the Regional Facilities Manager requests
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Where you will be working:

Thornford Park is a 141 bed hospital set within 21 acres of Berkshire countryside, offering a seamless care pathway across medium and low secure services, psychiatric intensive care units (PICUs), and rehabilitation flats. The site supports men and women with complex Mental Health needs, Personality Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Autism—often with histories of offending or previous placement challenges.

Services include:

• Medium & Low Secure Units for acute and long-term care
• PICUs for individuals in psychiatric crisis
• Older Adult Services with age-appropriate, holistic interventions
• Specialist Learning Disability & Autism Pathways with integrated secure settings and step-down flats

You’ll be part of a recovery-focused, multidisciplinary team helping people move safely toward greater independence. Thornford Park is easily accessible via Thatcham train station, with shuttle transport available.
