This is an opportunity for Physiotherapists with proven clinical and interpersonal skills to join our bank at Band 6 level. The bank shifts could be within any of the physiotherapy rehabilitation teams at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.  You will need to have experience of treating a wide variety of clinical conditions, ideally in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings. You will be supported by the clinical team in the area.

The bank shifts are likely to be variable in frequency and also how many days bank work is available. Bank work may be offered in any of the areas within the rehabilitation teams. You will be expected to embrace the departments equity, inclusion and diversity working ethos.

The bank role would suit a current Band 6 physiotherapist who may work part time or a shift pattern that allows taking part in additional shifts.

The bank shifts may be offered in any of these rehabilitation teams.

Oncology, older persons unit, vascular, neuro stroke, neuro rehabilitation, critical care rehabilitation, renal, orthopaedics, vestibular and facial rehabilitation, older persons assessment unit, admissions avoidance in A&E, healthy living team weight management team and exercise on dialysis.

Applicants would manage their own case load and be responsible for their clinical governance and development while being supported by the wider rehabilitation team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of the post-holders own work
  • To carry out assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with complex presentations, and using clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence based practice, to determine appropriate care plan utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options
  • To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnoses in a wide range of conditions including those with a complex presentation, with occasional guidance from specialist physiotherapists
  • To formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans
  • To co-ordinate intervention which may include other disciplines; advises and educates patient/carers/relatives/other health professionals
  • To be responsible for maintenance of accurate written records using POMR system and use of computerised data collection and records and comprehensive progress and discharge reports to medical referrers as required by rotation
  • To manage clinical risk within own caseload at all times
  • To demonstrate physical ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and interventions including manual handling techniques and therapeutic handling
  • To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients
  • To be able to manage potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner, including but not limited to those in oncology, ICU, vascular and neurology.

Person specification

Previous experience

Essential

  • Broad range of experience, as an autonomous practitioner, at Band 5 level in acute and chronic rehabilitation
  • A broad range of experience in other settings including respiratory care, community and musculoskeletal work
  • Experience of working as member of a physiotherapy and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Participation in on-call and weekend rota work.

Desirable

  • Previous experience at Band 6 level.
  • Supervision of Band 5, PTA and Student
  • Experience of teaching on In service programmes and to the MDT Experience of the research or QI process Committee membership e.g. Health and Safety.

  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field

  • Remains updated with professional practice and new research
  • Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and the implications for physiotherapy services including experience of quality issues and audit
