Job overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Support Time and Recovery (STaR) Worker, at Band 4 to work via a Bank Contract, based in Watford for our Community Adult Mental Health Team. You will be joining our Temporary Staffing Team within HPFT - Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will work as part of a team providing mental health services, supporting service users by offering time, encouragement, and interventions that promote recovery. The role includes assessing needs and delivering interventions identified through Connected Lives assessments, as well as supporting the operation of clinics, including undertaking venipuncture or completing training in this area where required.

You will participate in a seven-day rota supporting the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) team and work across service and care group boundaries when necessary and collaborate closely with the Team Leader and other senior staff, while working within the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and Care Management processes, with a strong focus on recovery principles.

HPFT provides services for service users with mental health, learning disability and children’s and adolescent mental health problems. Applicants should have some experience of working in a healthcare setting.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support and dedicated time to an allocated group of service users, promoting their recovery and encouraging their integration within the wider community and support care coordinators in implementing recovery-focused care plans for a designated caseload of service users, ensuring they engage effectively with their agreed care plans and access appropriate services on a regular and consistent basis.

The role involves promoting independent living within the community, building positive and therapeutic relationships with service users through attentiveness, sensitivity, understanding, compassion, and honesty.

You will also contribute to the development of plans that provide practical support to service users and their carers, helping them maintain dignity, independence, and improved quality of life.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Enable staff to provide support with daily ‘living of ordinary lives’
  • Ensure the right information is available to enable staff and service users to gain access to resources, including benefits and welfare rights.
  • Be responsible for reviewing information available to staff and service users for its quality and relevance.
  • Help to identify early signs of relapse by monitoring the service users’ progress, level of functioning and mental state and alert the appropriate staff involved in the service users’ care.
  • Report regularly to care co-ordinators and appropriate key workers.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by existing procedures, entering appropriate details on the service users’ case notes / electronic patient records as necessary.
  • Ensure the service user understands and has a clear pathway of care across sector / agency boundaries with key contact points / named individuals.
  • Participate in and be responsible for appropriate elements of staff development as part of STaR Team meetings as and when required.

Experience

Essential

  • Three years experience of providing mental health services from within a team setting, which may be combined with personal lived experience of mental health difficulties

Qualifications / equivalent experience:

  • NVQ level 3 qualification or mental health certificate level 3 or agreement to undertake such training as soon as resources permit
