An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bank SLT to join the Specialist Children and Young People’s Services (SCYPS) in Newham to undertake ASD diagnostic assessments.
This post sits within the Child Development Service, working in the CHAND (CHildren with Autism in Newham Diagnosis) team.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, forward thinking practitioner with experience of Neurodevelopmental Conditions with an interest in ASD to join our Staff BANK.
The post holder will undertake ASD assessment working in partnership with the wider multi disciplinary team.
The post holder will contribute to multi-professional assessments of neurodevelopmental conditions in children and young people Providing specialist advice across professional boundaries and develop streamlined patient care pathways between nursing, GP’s and paediatricians, setting up shared care arrangements for each child as appropriate. Assessment outcomes will be discussed and agreed with patients, carers and other health care professionals, promoting health education and self-management whilst keeping the child, young person and family at the centre of all care.
Main duties of the job
With support from more senior colleagues, to provide specialist SLT assessment within the autism diagnostic pathway CHAND for children and young people aged 2-11 years of age.
To undertake ADOS assessments as part of the diagnostic assessment.
To undertake joint and single clinician assessments as part of the multiagency autism assessment team.
To provide autism assessment reports for families adhering to pathway standards.
To provide advice to parents and professionals on creating a supportive communication environment..

- To be part of the CHAND diagnostic Multiagency team providing specialist assessments and diagnostic services to children and young people aged 2-11 years of age supported by senior staff.
- To undertake ADOS assessments for children within the diagnostic pathway.
- To liaise with teaching staff to gather information to support diagnostic assessments,
- To work as part of the CHAND diagnostic pathway.
- To work jointly with more senior colleagues and other professionals to undertake diagnostic assessments.

- Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level
- Experience of assessment, intervention, goal setting and developing therapy programmes post-registration in a range of settings
- Experience in assessing and providing intervention for autistic children(communication)
- Experience of community and schools based work
- Experience of working with multidisciplinary or multiagency partners

- Experience of delivering training

Education & Qualifications
Essential
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
- Health Professions Council – Licence to Practice
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses
- Successful completion of core SLT competencies at band 5

- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
- Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups / CEN
