We are looking for a passionate and skilled Diabetes Specialty Psychologist to join our dynamic Children and Young People’s Diabetes (CYPD) multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside consultant paediatricians, clinical nurse specialists, paediatric dieticians, and administrative staff to support children and their families living with diabetes.
The candidate we’re looking for will have:
Doctoral level training in clinical psychology.
Experience in specialist psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings.
Knowledge of the emotional impact of long-term illnesses on children and families.
Skills in providing consultation and training to other professionals.
Post-qualification experience working with children with long-term conditions.
Knowledge of paediatric medicine (specific diabetes knowledge not essential.)
Experience in teaching, training, and supervision of trainee clinical psychologists.
The postholder will work with a lively, innovative and highly motivated Children and Young People’s Diabetes (CYPD) multidisciplinary team comprising consultant paediatricians, clinical nurse specialists, paediatric dieticians and administration staff.
They will provide specialist clinical psychology assessments and short-term interventions services to children and their families living with diabetes within West Hertfordshire working autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the Trust’s policies and procedures.

Clinical Duties:
Provide specialist clinical psychology assessments and short-term interventions.
Lead the psychological approach to care within the MDT for children with diabetes.
Undertake risk assessments and management, offering advice on psychological aspects.
Communicate effectively with health and social care staff.
Communication and Relationship Building:
Receive managerial supervision from the Professional Lead for Psychology.
Establish communication networks within the East of England CYPD Diabetes regional network psychology group.
Communicate assessment, formulation, and treatment plans to CAMHS.
Planning and Organisation:
Maintain professional standards through CPD and training programs.
Participate in MDT meetings, service evaluation, and policy development.
Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and governance.
Research and Development:
Conduct clinical audits, service development, and research.
Supervise Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Utilise evidence-based literature to support practice.
