Job overview

Looking for an exciting new role?  We are seeking a motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic nurse with experience in enteral feeding to join our Children’s Nutrition and Dietetic Team.

This Children's Nutrition Nurse Specialist role focuses on delivering expert, evidence-based care to children and young people aged 0-19 with enteral feeding tubes, including those with complex disabilities, life-limiting conditions and challenging clinical and social needs.

Main duties of the job

You will hold a specialist paediatric caseload, working autonomously across community settings including clinics, family homes, residential and respite services. You will provide advanced assessment, clinical decision-making and expert advice on enteral feeding tube management, supporting children, families, carers and the wider multidisciplinary team.

You will work closely with our team of 11 paediatric dietitians, children’s nursing staff and our experienced Nutrition Nursing team to advise and support on all aspects of enteral feeding.  The team liaises closely with acute units, enteral feeding companies, and respite units in relation to home enteral feeding discharges, and direct patient care for complex cases. A significant part of the role will also involve staff training. Working alongside the Lead Nutrition Nurse for Children, you will gain expert knowledge and support patients in their own homes to prevent admission to hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Deliver specialist nursing care in paediatric enteral feeding
  • Act as a clinical expert and advisor for complex cases
  • Lead and deliver education, training and competency assessment for staff, patients and carers
  • Contribute to service development, audit and quality improvement
  • Support safeguarding, consent and best-interest decision-making for children
