The Medical Specialties and Oncology therapy team are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us in a newly developed rotational Band 7 OT position. Do you have a passion for acute medicine, oncology and palliative care, enjoy working in a fast-paced acute healthcare environment and can demonstrate advanced communication & strong leadership skills.

We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate rapid and robust decision-making skills while considering what matters most to the patient and families. The role will have a large focus on MDT working & supporting innovation & development in the team. You will be supported by your Band 7 peers & Clinical Lead Therapist to deliver service improvement.

The post holder will rotate on a 12-month basis across the following specialties: Renal, acute oncology & palliative care. Other specialities covered include gastroenterology, endocrine & a short stay ward.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of the provision of services to patients across the medical specialty & oncology wards.

To give highly specialist guidance to other members of the MDT on matters relating to your specialist area

To negotiate and enable changes in the patient’s quality of life, by developing their transition between roles and optimising purposeful, meaningful activity. This involves assessment, practice of functional tasks, counselling, motivating and reintegration back into the community and includes supporting the patient’s carer/relative and educating them on specific rehabilitation techniques to optimise independence.

To provide a consultation role in teaching and supporting colleagues’ on matters relating to specialist area.

To give highly specialist guidance and advice to other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) on matters relating to your specialist area

Provide leadership for the Occupational Therapy team, in conjunction with the Clinical Lead and other Band 7 staff, in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the Occupational Therapy service provided to patients across medical specialty wards.

To provide a lead role in teaching, supervising and appraising peers, Band 6 and Band 5, Student Occupational Therapists, Therapy Assistants on a daily basis.

To deputise in the absence of senior colleagues as required
