Job overview

We are seeking to recruit an exceptionally skilled Echocardiographer at a Band 7, who shows evidence of excellent clinical ability and is eager to develop their managerial skills.

You should have an interest in both training and managing Echocardiographers and need to be keen to support the development of the rapidly growing Echocardiography Department.

You will be part of a quality assurance (QA) programme and will be key in the review of echos performed by junior staff.

Accreditation with BSE (or equivalent) is essential.

Any personal research or clinical interests including ongoing postgraduate study will be supported where possible, and we undertake to develop the successful applicant further.

Main duties of the job

There are 6 Cardiac Imaging Consultants who take an active role in educational development of Cardiac Sonographers & Physiologists and also in chairing the weekly echo meetings where unusual cases and operational issues are discussed.

The Echo equipment used at West Herts includes 1 Philip’s EpiQ, 6 GE E95’s, 3 GE S70.

All scans are databased and reported on McKesson (Change Healthcare) which is linked across all sites and stress echo is reported on EchoPAC.

There are daily echo lists which include stress echo lists, both DSE and on a bike, and daily availability of TOE including 3D.

There are dedicated Specialists valve, heart failure and complex echo clinics running across the sites daily.

In 2018 we carried out 14500 transthoracic echocardiograms and 1200 stress echo’s annually.

The Trust has a dedicated Cardiac CT and MRI suite which opened in November 2016.

The Cardiology Department is particularly forward thinking with 11 Consultant Cardiologists, 2 Catheter Laboratories and the full range of invasive and non-invasive cardiology including PCI, complex device implantation and EP.
