Job overview

The purpose of this role is to work within a multidisciplinary team to provide an alcohol and drug assessment and treatment service as part of an alcohol care team, and to provide a nurse led assessment service to the liver transplant programme. The service works across The Royal Free and Barnet sites and is available 7 days a week.

Post holders will work under the guidance and supervision of a Lead Nurse for Addictions (Lead Nurse Drug and Alcohol service)

Working with patients who have been referred to the alcohol liaison service you will first assess and then provide evidence-based brief and extended brief interventions such as relapse prevention, motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural therapy. Nurse prescribers will have the opportunity to develop their practice and the service as we look to set up a 7 day a week ambulatory alcohol detox service.

All team members will be required to maintain good internal and external relationships, offering advice and expert opinion on patient management. You will provide teaching on your specialist area to teams across the hospital. You will design, implement and carry out research, audit and outcome measurement within the service and to analyse outcome data.
