The candidate will be expected to have a good understanding of areas within Microbiology notably in Respiratory and Enteric Bacteriology including Molecular Biology. They will be required to train and motivate staff. We are looking for people who work well within a team and have a patient focused attitude.
In providing a 24 hour, 7 day health service, there is requirement for ability to work extended day, working at weekends and on statutory and public holidays as necessary; and participation in overnight shift or on-call as applicable.
Main Duties
*To manage and organise the day-to-day operation within your sub-section, maintaining SOP'S and producing a competent workforce through Training and Competency.
*To safely handle, biological samples such as faeces, sputums, bronchial lavages, and washings. Be aware these samples can isolate ACDP hazard group 2 and 3 organisms.
*To maintain Quality Assurance procedures in accordance with the standards of UKAS ISO 15189:2022.
*Undertake technical validation of the results produced in laboratory investigations to ensure their accuracy and precision as specified by laboratory and quality protocols.
*To ensure that all results are reported within the agreed turnaround time and report to an Operational Manager any non-compliance.
*To be familiar with and ensure compliance to national, Trust and departmental Health and Safety policies e.g. risk assessments and COSHH assessments.
