Job overview

We are looking for a creative and dynamic nurse to join the Autism Enhanced Support Team.

The post holder will be an experienced registered nurse, providing clinical expertise across Birmingham and Solihull as part of the developing Autism Enhanced Support Team within BSMHFT, alongside Senior Specialist Learning Disability and Autism clinicians and the Head of Learning Disability and Autism.

The post holder will be expected to work alongside senior clinical leads and colleagues to support oversight and co-ordination of a cohort with autism including admission avoidance strategies, supporting to prevent the readmission of individuals to hospital and ensuring that those who are delayed in their discharge get the clinical and professional support they need.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Nurse will provide expert clinical leadership to enhance support for Autistic citizens across Birmingham and Solihull, with a primary focus on preventing avoidable mental health inpatient admissions. Working autonomously and alongside senior clinical colleagues, the post holder will deliver specialist assessment, coordination, and system oversight for Autistic individuals at highest risk.

The role requires advanced knowledge of health and social care systems, relevant legislation, and local and national priorities, applying this expertise to influence care planning and service responses across organisational boundaries. The post holder will operate within a multi-disciplinary framework, working across health, social care, and the voluntary sector to deliver coordinated, timely, and person-centred support.

The Specialist Nurse will provide both consultancy and direct clinical input, including the delivery of tailored training and advice to professionals, services, and systems managing complex presentations.
