Job Advert for Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist

X2 posts:

1 x 9 Month Fixed Term Contract -- Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy Team based at Solihull Hospital

1 x Permanent contract -- Inpatient Stroke Service based at Good Hope Hospital

Are you an experienced Band 5 therapist looking to progress into a specialist role, or a Band 6 therapist seeking a new opportunity? Due to recent service developments, two exciting opportunities have arisen within our large, friendly, and supportive Adult Speech and Language Therapy team.

We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic therapists who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. Successful candidates will work as part of supportive multidisciplinary teams, contributing to assessment, diagnosis, and management plans, while playing an active role in ongoing service development and transformation.

Flexible working applications are welcomed and we are committed to supporting work-life balance wherever possible.

Please clearly state within your application whether you are applying for the Community post, the Inpatient Stroke post, or both opportunities.

Successful candidates may also be considered for other suitable Band 6 vacancies arising within Adult Speech and Language Therapy services during the recruitment process.

Main duties of the job

You will be welcomed into the team with excellent training and development opportunities, alongside a robust supervision and appraisal structure.

Both roles involve managing a varied caseload of adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing impairments, including individuals living with stroke, dementia, and other neurological conditions.

The Community role will involve assessment, diagnosis, and delivery of treatment programmes within patients' own homes, care settings, and outpatient clinics. Due to the nature of the role, access to your own transport is essential.

The Inpatient Stroke role will focus on the assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders within the acute stroke pathway, working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to support rehabilitation and discharge planning. This post currently includes participation in the weekend inpatient service across Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, and Solihull Hospital.

You will independently manage your own caseload while benefiting from excellent support from senior colleagues and the wider Speech and Language Therapy team.

We would love to hear from you for an informal discussion or visit to the department.
