Job overview

We are looking to appoint a full time Specialist Screening Practitioner to join our team, who will play a key role in supporting patients through the screening process, you will manage the delivery of nurse-led clinics and colonoscopy lists at BHRUT.  You will be acting as the individuals’ advocate, supporting them and their family to make informed choices about their screening examination, through all stages of the screening programme, assessing individuals, making decisions based on the outcomes of the assessment and planning their pathway.

You will be expected to work with our Health Improvement Specialist to help improve uptake to Bowel Cancer Screening. Unless you already possess the mandatory Specialist Screening Practitioner's certificate. If you are already qualified, you will have access to the Bowel Cancer Screening System (BCSS). If not, training will be provided, but proficient IT skills are required. The post is based at King George Hospital, but you will be required to work across all sites for BHRUT. The post may involve evening and weekend shifts.

Please note: If you are already a qualified SSP, then pay is rewarded at a Band 6. If you are not qualified, there are two mandatory courses to attend (funded). One is for the BCSS IT system, and the other is an SSP course and pay is rewarded at a Band 5.  Upon successful completion and passing of this course, pay will automatically be rewarded at a Band 6.

Main duties of the job

Providing specialist clinical advice for patients and carers and supporting those who are undertaking the screening pathway for the entirety of their pathway for a colonoscopy or CTC. To Carrying a caseload and take responsibility for the management of allocated cases.

Working collaboratively with the programme hub and external stakeholders. As part of the team, co-ordinate and provide care from the screening centre to address the needs of individuals arising because of the screening programme.
