Job summary
We are looking for Cardiac Physiologists to join our friendly but very busy department at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, which is part of the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be a newly qualified PTP/STP graduate, or a Cardiac Physiologist wishing to progress further.
The department incorporates a broad range of procedures, both routine and complex. The successful candidates will join our busy but very friendly team and work in a variety of areas with the department including our newly refurbished Cardiac Cath Labs. Our Cath Labs are extremely busy and perform close to 2000 angioplasty procedures a year. We work closely with our Industry partner Medtronic who provide a managed equipment service in relation to the consumables and equipment in the Cath Labs. The Birmingham Heartlands Hospital was awarded 97 million pounds to build a state of the art Ambulatory Care and Diagnostics centre which opened in January 2023.

Although you will primarily be based at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, cross-site working may be required. Participation in the Cath Lab on-call rota will be a requirement.
Main duties of the job
1.Perform specialised Cardiac Physiology investigations and interventions including:
2.Advanced physiological testing during pacemaker, CRT-P and ICD/CRT-D implantation and follow-up with analysis of complex data and diagnostic information. Prescription and evaluation of device therapy and programming ensuring individualised device optimisation.
Additionally, perform a broad range of clinical investigations undertaken within the Cardiac Physiology Service including, but not limited to:
3.Performance, analysis, and interpretation of resting ECGs.
4.Manage physiologist-led Exercise Tolerance Testing
5.Holter application
6.Holter analysis (including complex pacemakers/implantable devices)
7.Cardiac catheterisation (including complex cases)
8.Permanent pacemaker and implantable loop recorder implantation and follow-up

Essential
- Competent in invasive and non-invasive cardiology diagnostic techniques
- Competent and independently working in Brady follow- up and Brady Implanting
- Working towards independent and competence in Complex device follow-up and implant.
- ILS
- Ability to work as an independent practitioner.
- IT skills
- Confident to input to training of students and apprentices.
Desirable
- Evidence of successfully passing the IBHRE or BHRS examination and working towards to full accreditation.
Qualifications
Essential
- BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent)
Desirable
- Working towards highly specialist post basic courses to Masters level or equivalent
- RCCP / AHCS registration
- BHRS/IBHRE accreditation
- Professional Body Exams (ASCST)

- Evidence of excellent communication skills at all levels including verbal, non-verbal and written.
