Job overview

The cardiology directorate provides comprehensive secondary and tertiary cardiology services to patients in North Central London. It is a centre of excellence for pulmonary hypertension and carcinoid heart disease and provides tertiary level expertise in intervention cardiology, electrocardiography and valvular heart disease The cardiology investigation unit (CIU) provides the trust with a comprehensive range of cardiology investigations including:

  • ECG, ambulatory Holter monitoring, event recorders and BP monitors
  • Echocardiography, including transoesophageal and dobutamine & treadmill stress echo.
  • Physiologist led exercise testing.
  • Cardiac catheterisation and coronary angioplasty (including a 24-hour primary coronary intervention service), You also be part of 24hrs oncall service. With advanced imaging and complex PCI techniques.

Main duties of the job

This senior physiologist role is to support the cardiac physiology department based at Royal Free Hospital.

To work independently (at least 2 years) in the Cardiac cath lab, taking part in the on call rota assisting with coronary angioplasty as part of the 24 hour primary coronary intervention service. With advanced imaging and complex PCI techniques.

You will be expected to work independently, demonstrating expertise in a physiologist’s role in a range of investigations carried out by the CIU. You will demonstrate a high standard of skills in diagnostic testing, interpretation, reporting and treatment in order to achieve best quality patient care

You will be able to carry out device follow up checks for pacemakers and be part of the inpatient device rota.

You will also be able to cover all non-invasive cardiac testing in the Cardiology dept when needed, 12 lead ECG, Ambulatory ECG and BP monitoring and analysis, ETT.

Experience

Essential

  • Appropriate work experience in rhythm management recognition and reporting
  • Able to work in a PCI lab independently as part of elective service and be part of the 24/7 oncall service
  • Brady device follow up experience

Desirable

  • Experience with implantable cardiac device follow up
  • Independent in ETT, dobutamine/treadmill stress echo.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Clinical Cardiac Physiology / Bsc Healthcare Science or PTP or STP or equivalent extensive clinical experience to specialist level
  • ILS Certification
  • Minimum 2 years cath labs experience in the UK with oncall.

Desirable

  • Working Towards BHRS and IBHRE
  • Management/Leadership qualification experience/qualification
