Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Diagnostic Radiographer in West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to join the Radiology Department within Clinical Support Services at Watford General Hospital. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging services, supporting clinicians and consultant radiologists in the accurate assessment and diagnosis of patients. You will be managing a varied clinical workload, ensuring safe and effective imaging procedures while maintaining high standards of patient care. Working collaboratively with a wide range of healthcare professionals, including nursing staff, ward teams, radiology administration staff, and apprentice radiographers, you will support the smooth running of the department and contribute to efficient service delivery across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Diagnostic Radiographer you will be responsible for ensuring strict interpretation and application of IR(ME)R 2017 regulations within daily radiographic practice, supporting safe justification, optimisation, and compliance with radiation legislation across all imaging activities. You will be managing awareness and implementation of regulatory updates, ensuring that statutory requirements are correctly understood and consistently applied in line with current guidance. You will be responsible for contributing to departmental assurance by identifying potential areas of non-compliance and supporting corrective actions in accordance with radiation protection standards and governance frameworks, while also promoting safe imaging environments by reinforcing legal responsibilities among all relevant staff groups involved in the imaging process.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities of this job role

To support the safe identification, documentation, and escalation of equipment faults by accurately logging issues and ensuring timely communication with senior staff and service engineers to minimise disruption to imaging services.

To contribute to the coordination of departmental resources by monitoring stock levels, ensuring appropriate availability of imaging consumables, and maintaining efficient organisation of clinical work areas.

To respond to system and equipment operational issues by assisting in troubleshooting processes, supporting investigation of imaging system malfunctions, and ensuring appropriate reporting pathways are followed.

To maintain accurate and compliant digital records in line with data protection requirements, ensuring that all patient and operational data entered into imaging systems is correctly recorded and securely managed.

To provide operational support in maintaining a clean, safe, and functional imaging environment by ensuring equipment and work areas are appropriately prepared and maintained to support efficient workflow.

To assist in the implementation of departmental workflow processes by supporting day-to-day coordination activities, contributing to smooth operational functioning across imaging modalities without direct involvement in clinical governance or training responsibilities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • To be successful in applying for this role you will need:
  • HCPC registered Radiographer with DCR(R) or BSc Radiography qualification.
  • Post qualification experience across multiple imaging modalities including CT.
  • Good knowledge of adaptive techniques with awareness of current professional trends.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and workload prioritisation skills in a clinical setting.
  • Experience working within the NHS with exposure to CRIS and PACS systems desirable.
