An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled, innovative and enthusiastic senior clinical technician to join our Clinical Pharmacy team.

The department provides a stimulating, friendly and professionally rewarding environment for staff to develop their clinical and professional expertise.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will be responsible for supporting the development of the pharmacy clinical services delivered at Watford General Hospital, working closely with the Clinical Services Manager and Clinical Pharmacy Technicians Manager.

The post holder will be expected to help with the supervision and training of junior pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in clinical services. They will support the development of the clinical induction programme for ward-based staff at the Trust.

Knowledge:

Essential

  • Dispensing.
  • Law and Ethics.
  • Pharmaceutical Practice.
  • Hospital Pharmacy Practice.
  • Good clinical knowledge.
  • Medicines Optimisation processes.
  • Patient Counselling.
  • NHS Organisational Structure.
  • Laws and principles related to Information Security and Confidential.

Desirable

  • Excel Spreadsheets – minimum intermediate level.

Experience:

Essential

  • Appropriate post qualification hospital experience.
  • Ability to work within clearly defined occupational polices and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Proven ability to manage own workload and the workload of others, delegating supervision activities as appropriate.
  • Knowledge and experience of recording data, including sensitive information, on pharmacy computerised data record systems.
  • Experience in organising daily activities of staff within a team.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of other health care professionals.
  • Experience of providing training.

Desirable

  • Training staff.
  • Audit participation.
  • Experience in developing and implementing SOPs.
  • Experience of conducting and reporting project & audit work.

Education and qualifications:

Essential

  • BTEC certificate in applied sciences/NVQ level 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent.
  • Accredited technician checking qualification.
  • Accreditation in Medicines Management (or equivalent).
  • Completion of a recognised leadership/management course and/or relevant experience in managing staff and resources.
  • Registered with GPhC as a technician.

Desirable

  • Leadership /Management Course.
  • Practice supervisor / Education supervisor.
