Due to the promotion of the current post holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian to join the Gastroenterology Service at King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill. This post would suit either an experienced Band 5 Dietitian looking to progress into a specialist Band 6 role or a Band 6 Dietitian seeking a new challenge and the opportunity to develop expertise in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery. The post is initially offered on a 12-month fixed-term basis (0.8 WTE). It is anticipated that, subject to the King's redesign programme and relevant approvals, the role will subsequently be extended and increased to a substantive 1.0 WTE position.

The gastroenterology dietetic team comprises a Band 8a Clinical Lead Dietitian, two Band 7 Dietitians, a Band 6 Dietitian and a rotational Band 5 Dietitian, delivering specialist nutrition support across a range of inpatient and outpatient services.

This varied role combines two weekly onsite gastroenterology outpatient clinics with the management of a gastrosurgical and colorectal surgical inpatient caseload. The successful candidate will provide specialist nutritional assessment and intervention to patients with disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), inflammatory bowel disease and those undergoing gastrointestinal surgery, including patients requiring highly individualised nutritional management following complex intestinal procedures.

Main duties of the job

The post is based onsite across a four-day working week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), with Thursday as a non-working day. The successful candidate will therefore need excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and balance the demands of a complex inpatient caseload alongside scheduled outpatient clinics.

Working closely with gastroenterologists, surgeons and the wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. There are excellent opportunities for service development, including ongoing innovations within the DGBI service, patient education programmes and digital transformation projects.

The successful candidate will benefit from regular supervision, mentorship and support from experienced senior gastroenterology dietitians, making this an excellent opportunity to build confidence and develop specialist skills. Further opportunities include shadowing within the Parenteral Nutrition Service and supporting the supervision and line management of the rotational Band 5 Dietitian.
