AWP Specialised Services have embarked on an exciting journey to provide the first NHS Gambling Service for the South West of England. This new remote team provides online treatment to people who want help with their gambling as well as their families and significant others.

We have a new position available for a Qualified Clinical Associate Psychologist, to deliver online specialist psychological interventions to people seeking help for gambling.  The role will involve assessment, formulation and treatment, drawing on CBT, Motivational Interviewing and Family Interventions, both in group and individual formats.  You will be part of our MDT, participating in relevant meetings and processes, and working in a trauma informed way.

As Gambling services are a new development for the NHS we will provide support and training to help you in your role.  There will also be opportunities to get involved in helping the service evolve and develop.  We are a remote working service, but the role will involve some face to face appointments and regular in-person team meetings.

Main duties of the job

This role is semi-autonomous working in the South West Gambling Service under supervision of a local Clinical Psychologist/BABCP accredited practitioner.

Psychological assessment and formulation of specified client group depending on service need and skills/training of practitioner.

Offer defined evidence based psychological interventions to that specific client group, in particular cognitive behaviour therapy.

Working with Service Users experiencing gambling harms across South West of England.

You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team.

To act as a keyworker to a defined caseload for whom they are providing the main psychological intervention. Where the demands of care coordination extend beyond the psychological intervention, the care coordination will be reviewed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To carry a defined caseload of people receiving specific psychological interventions and act as key worker for them as appropriate.   To ensure that risk is assessed and managed following Trust policies and procedures  To provide evidence based psychological interventions (individual and group) eg CBT as appropriate to your skills and training. In particular you will be providing interventions identified in care packages appropriate to your team  To undertake specialised psychological assessment and formulation under the supervision of a clinical psychologist or BACBP accredited psychological therapist  Maintenance of high quality clinical records working in accordance with Trust policy and procedures  With Supervision and in collaboration with the clinical psychologist or BACBP accredited psychological therapist, to plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care.   To inform and support families and carers as appropriate to the role

Person specification

Qualifications/Experience/Skills

Essential

  • Degree in Psychology or BPS accredited conversion course (with Graduate basis for registration)
  • Current membership of the British Psychological Society AND BPS registration as an accredited CAP (or be in process of applying for CAP accreditation with BPS)
  • Experience of working with complex mental health problems
  • An understanding of the psychological assessment process to develop individual and systemic formulations and risk assessments.
  • Able to use initiative and work independently
  • Experience of working effectively under supervision from a registered Practitioner Psychologist
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbally and written, including the ability to engage with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems
  • Required to spend a considerable period of a working day sitting in front of a VDU.
  • Ability to travel quickly around Trust sites
  • Professional qualification as a Clinical Associate in Psychology And successful completion of the end point assessment on Clinical Associate Psychologist Apprenticeship (Masters CAP course)

Desirable

  • Experience of offering group treatments
  • Experience of contributing to the delivery of specific psychological interventions/protocols
  • Experience of delivering training.
  • Experience of undertaking or disseminating audit/research results
  • Experience of care co-ordination or key working
