Join Our Blood Transfusion Team at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust!

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Biomedical Scientist with expertise in Blood Transfusion and Haematology to join our dynamic Pathology team.

If you have successfully completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio, you will be appointed on the appropriate AfC Band 6 salary. Applications are also welcome from candidates with an IBMS-accredited degree who intend to complete their HCPC registration portfolio.

The successful candidate will regularly rotate through all areas of the Blood Transfusion Department across Queen’s Hospital, Romford and King George Hospital, Ilford, working as part of a 24/7 shift rota, including weekends.

Essential Requirement: Ability to work out of hours and on weekends as part of the rota.

Main duties of the job

  • 1)    Keep the workplace and workbenches clean and tidy. 2)    Maintain good working relationships with all staff members, and plan and organise own work within the demands of the team. 3)    Treat everyone associated with BHRUT with courtesy and respect. 4)    Rotate through different sections of the department and sites as required. 5)    Undertake manual, semi-automated, and fully automated laboratory investigations in accordance with standard operating procedures. 6)    Perform preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment; investigate and resolve equipment failures or seek advice from senior staff or service engineers. Maintain accurate maintenance records according to protocol. 7)    Check the accuracy and precision of manual and automated laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures, and take corrective action if issues are identified. 8)    Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are completed on laboratory instruments before use in patient investigations.
