Job overview

In collaboration with Dementia UK - Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) are looking to recruit an experienced, registered nurse with a passion for, and experience of, providing relationship-centred dementia care to join our team.

Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who work with and support people with dementia and their families. As the Admiral Nurse, Band 6, you will be within the wider Admiral Nursing, Dementia Service to influence, deliver, and coordinate relationship-centred dementia care within the hospital setting.

You will support the Band 7 Admiral Nurse Lead in the operational delivery of the Dementia & Delirium agenda, raising awareness with a high visible presence in the clinical areas and provide practical solutions for families, alongside supporting best practice and providing role modelling within BHRUT.

You will have the opportunity to access relevant post-graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care.

You will be an NMC registered (adult/mental health/learning disability) nurse, educated to degree level with post-registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia and supporting their carers/supporters within different care settings.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the wider Corporate Nursing Safeguarding Team (including Dementia and Learning Disability and Autism), supporting the Band 7 Lead Admiral Nurse in the operational delivery of the dementia and delirium agenda.

You will work within the Trust to raise awareness of dementia and delirium associated with dementia or cognitive impairment, with a high visible presence in clinical areas and to act as a role model and champion for dementia and delirium. The Band 6 Admiral Nurse will support, deliver and coordinate relationship-centred dementia care in order to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia with complex needs, during the acute stay and transitions of care within operational areas of BHRUT.

In addition, you will be expected to deputise in the absence of the Band 7 Lead Admiral Nurse and provide direct line management to the Band 4 Dementia Nursing Associate (this is a job shared role).
