Community Mental Health Team – Solihull Hub. Older Adult CMHT

An exciting opportunity has arisen for permanent band 5 to join our Community Mental Health Team.

The successful applicant will work closely with the band 6 OT, Consultant Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Community Mental Health Nurses and admiral Nurses as well as have close links with in-patient units, CERTS (community enablement and recovery team, OPIP (older peoples intervention Programme), and Social Services. The CMHT’s also liaise with primary care specifically GP’s, and the third sector.

Main duties of the job

The Occupational Therapist will be required to undertake comprehensive OT assessments using a number of standardised tools and models, including MOHO (model of human Occupation). The OT will apply formulation skills in setting appropriate goals and work together with the service user in achieving these goals by application of appropriate interventions.

A core role of his post is inputting into the division wide OPIP service which offers interventions in group and one to one settings for service users with organic and/or mental health needs.

The OT will be directly supervised by the band 6.

The Mental Health Services for Older People division within the Trust values the role of occupational therapy within its teams and promotes regular managerial, professional and clinical supervision. There also training opportunities within the Trust and support of continuing professional development.

Experience

Essential

  • Has experience of work within mental health settings or in a previous role where mental health awareness is evidenced.
  • Application demonstrates some insight into the difficulties and needs of this client group and how OT may contribute to their recovery.
  • Has experience and a genuine interest in working with older people.

Desirable

  • Application demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the role of OT with this client group and is able to communicate clearly issues for service users, carers, families.
  • Is able to describe support and supervision offered to colleagues, students of all professional groups and support staff
  • Evidence of detailed assessment skills, participation in MDT working.
  • Candidate is willing to take a lead and responsibility where needed.

Personal skills and Qualities

Essential

  • Candidate is able to recognise the importance of personalised care when identifying and setting goals and supporting service user in planning interventions.
  • Is able to work independently with minimal supervision. Manages time effectively. This includes the necessary updating of all clinical records and reports in a timely manner and within Trust and National requirements.
  • Applicant demonstrates good awareness of their development needs, is able to describe how they manage their workload and time management

Desirable

  • Is able to use initiative and develop bespoke services within unit based on unit needs, in discussion with senior OT staff and team manager.
  • Is able to demonstrate leadership skills, works well with others and demonstrates good communication skills based on self description.
  • Applicant has an understanding of the importance of providing care in a way that is respectful of a service users cultural needs and is respectful of diversity
