Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Band 5 Radiographer, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality, patient-focused diagnostic imaging service across both Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital sites. You will undertake a wide range of radiographic examinations, primarily general X-ray imaging, ensuring all procedures are carried out in accordance with departmental protocols, IR(ME)R regulations, and Trust policies.

You will play a key role in providing safe and effective care to patients, maintaining dignity, privacy, and comfort at all times. This includes communicating clearly with patients, gaining valid consent, and adapting techniques to meet individual clinical needs, including those with reduced mobility, complex conditions, or acute presentations.

You will operate a range of imaging equipment safely and efficiently, producing consistently high-quality diagnostic images. You are expected to assess images for diagnostic acceptability and ensure timely transfer to reporting systems.

The role involves rotation through different clinical areas across both hospital sites, to support service demands and develop a broad skill set. You will also participate in a full shift system, including evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call duties, ensuring continuous service provision across both locations.

You will carry out daily equipment checks to ensure imaging systems are functioning safely and effectively, reporting faults as required. You will also complete routine quality assurance (QA) procedures in line with departmental and regulatory standards.

Maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control (IPC) is a key responsibility, including cleaning and decontamination of equipment and clinical areas across both sites. You will also check and maintain the crash trolley, ensuring it is fully stocked, functional, and ready for emergency use.

You will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, liaising with radiologists, clinicians, nursing staff, and support teams to deliver an efficient and responsive imaging service across both hospitals. You will prioritise workload effectively, particularly in emergency and high-pressure situations.

Accurate record keeping is essential, and you will ensure all patient data and imaging records are maintained in line with Trust policies, legal requirements, and professional standards.

You will be expected to take responsibility for your own continuing professional development, maintaining HCPC registration and participating in training, audit, and service improvement activities to support both sites.
